May. 17th, 2021 03:41 amYvelon is a man with quite the chip on his shoulder. Impoverished in his youth, his parents tried to be upstanding members of society, however as they were Duskwight Elezen, they were often not trusted or blamed for things they did not do. This eventually lead his father to be imprisoned for a crime he did not commit, leaving his mother to try and raise their son alone. (CW:Postitution) Having no skills to offer, she fell to the world’s oldest profession to see her son fed and clothed.(End CW) He did not realize it until years later when he was older, but it left him bitter at his father for what he felt was abandoning them. His mother eventually fell ill from her work, and Yvelon was left to try and support them both despite being young.
This is where his bitterness for the world began, he tried to solicit help, and for a time he received it, however eventually people’s pity turned to exasperation and blame, and he was forced to resort to petty theft. It kept he and his mother fed and clothed, but he remained helpless to stop her illness, and eventually succumbed to it. With nothing tying him to his home city, Gridania, he left and eventually found a new home among a group of Duskwight bandits. He spent most of his adult years with them, teaching himself healing magic and using his intelligence to crawl up the ranks until he wound up their strategist. Of course with so much success they drew the attention of the local law enforcement, and after a harsh crack down in their movements they were forced to disband and flee. Yvelon fled across the sea to La Nocea, where former pirates and bandits made up many of the residents, that is where the game starts.
Personality:
Yvelon comes off as cold and aloof with a sour attitude. If he is not curt and to the point then he’s often throwing some snide remark in or a subtle jab, depending on how annoyed he is at the situation... and at best he is diplomatically polite. The world has left him very bitter, jaded, and honestly quite tired of dealing with The Public. That said, he will fight for the public ‘til his dying breath because he likes politicians and aristocrats far less.
With his upbringing he feels as though he has the constant need to prove himself, to appear better than others to make up for the years he’d been looked down upon as a Duskwight. He makes it a point to be well read, and despite being self educated, he’d acquired quite the knowledge, particularly magic and healing. He did not want to be the one to stand by helplessly as someone perished before him. Every loss weighs on him as a failure, and thus he’s become something of a workaholic and a perfectionist.
Even though his main line of work is healing and spell casting, and his holds himself with the utmost sophistication, he is still a rogue at heart. He’s often drawn to the shadier ventures, feeling more at home there, even if he follows a code of ethics. He prefers the underground to law enforcement, and when no one is watching he can slip into old habits that don’t align with the image of perfection he liked to show others.
He does have a compassionate side, and it is far easier to notice when his mouth is closed. He will run himself ragged to help those that need it, often having others be the ones to force him to stop. He’s got a particular soft spot for those in dire situations, the impoverished, refugees, average citizens caught in the crossfire of war. He will not admit to such, but he often deals with such people with a more gentle hand.
